Liturgical Ministries

As a parishioner of St. Bernadette, you will find there are many opportunities to learn, to grow, and to celebrate. Whether you are called to serve the hungry and downtrodden, or minister to the sick, or serve on a board or council, or teach young people, or study scripture, or greet others coming to mass, St. Bernadette offers many ways to return our God-given gifts to our Lord who has given us so much.

Altar Linens

Daily use of hand towels, purificators and corporals for Eucharistic Celebrations, creates a constant need for clean linens. Participation in this ministry enables you to be a part of the “liturgy”, meaning “the work of the people.”

Children’s Liturgy of the Word Facilitators

The Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) is a liturgical experience offered during the 10:00 Sunday liturgy that is open to all children preschool age through the 3rd grade. This process is centered on special adapted readings from the Sunday liturgy that are designed to help children better understand the Word of God. After the opening prayer, the children are dismissed with trained facilitators to their own worship space. During the Presentation of the Gifts, they return to their families.

Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers

Ministers assist in the communion rite by sharing of the Lord’s body and blood with others. Extraordinary Ministers have a reverence and dignity for the Eucharist. Our Diocese requires all Extraordinary Ministers to receive training and to be certified in order to participate in this ministry.

Lectors proclaim to God’s people Salvation History through the oral reading of Sacred Scripture. A lector needs to feel at home with the Scriptures, to love them, and to pray with them. Youth and teens may participate in this ministry through our Children’s and Life Teen Liturgies.

Sacristans help support the flow of our liturgical celebrations by coordinating the liturgical ministers, ensuring the condition of the worship space and overseeing the preparation of vessels and the materials needed for both the presider and the assembly. They enable our liturgical celebrations to flow seamlessly and help ensure that the assembly is fully drawn into each Eucharistic celebration.
